ABOUT

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. The journey of Shilpi Kathak Academy in Navi Mumbai began fourteen years ago to consummate a dream of creating a confluence of traditional dance forms; and to promote our great cultural heritage art-Kathak.

Shilpi imparts lessons in Kathak dance forms based on the ancient Guru-Shisya tradition. Through the outreach of this classical narrative dance form, Shilpi continues the conversation of the ancient Kathakars among the millennial youth, enabling them to grasp the nuances of this great performing art and providing them with an enriching experience.

With a motto of 'Creativity Bestows Happiness, the sojourn of Shilpi has indeed been that of immense devotion, dedication, profound learning and undying faith in our rich heritage. Since the day of inception, it has been identified as a sacred place of learning; a seat of inspiration and guidance for the Kalaprathiks to truly achieve excellence, transcend into sublime and earn due exaltation.

INTRODUCING Ms.SOMOJA SAHA

Your Dance Guru dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich tradition of the timeless art of Kathak

Mrs. Somoja Saha, born in the city of Kolkata, is an ardent art seeker and a well trained Kathak Dansuse. Having learnt under the discipleship of Ms Shreelekha Mukherjee in her early days, her Kathak dance displays a refined pedigree of expression that stems from her rigorous training and comtemplation on the tradition. She is a Calcutta University merit holder in Geography Honours and B.Ed. She is a Nritya Visharad as well from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Alahabad. She has participated and conducted numerous dance programms in varied audiences. She also persues her hobby of caligraphy, painting and various craftworks. She continued her soul searching journey with inspiration of Ms Rita Chatterjee. Currently a disciple of Kathak exponent Dr Subhadha Gokhale, Somoja loves to compose and experiment dance choreography based on Kathak and Indian folk . She teaches more than hundred art seekers at her own institution, Shilpi Kathak Academy at Seawoods , NaviMumbai which is affiliated to Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh and wishes to awaken the society with glimpses of the traditional heritage of India , Kathak ... a dance of love, peace and tranquillity.
